As a member of The Lactation Network, I am in-network with many major insurance plans for services that fall within the scope of lactation care. This includes all prenatal consults and all feeding therapy sessions with a lactating parent involved, including if the parent is exclusively pumping or weaning. Please see the FAQs below for the full list of partnered insurance plans.

Prenatal Lactation Consult

Breastfeeding is a natural human experience, but it does not always come intuitively. Prenatal visits are especially helpful for people with:

  • Known health concerns such as issues with thyroid or diabetes

  • Fertility treatments or difficulty getting pregnant

  • Baby has known congenital complications such as Down Syndrome

  • Planned c-section or scheduled induction

  • Past difficulty with breastfeeding

  • Plan to return to work shortly after you give birth

  • Anyone with questions, worries, or even excitement about breastfeeding who wants to feel as prepared as possible

You will leave your consult with a personalized plan for relaxed and easeful breastfeeding during the early days postpartum, and an established relationship with a lactation specialist (me!) for any bumps in the road that arise during your breastfeeding journey.

Our sessions will be…

  • Holistic

Your values, feeding goals, birth experience, and family dynamics are unique to you and your baby. My recommendations always take into consideration your physical, emotional, mental, and relational needs during these precious first weeks and months postpartum.

  • Gentle

I trust you and your body, I trust your baby, and I trust the connection blossoming between the two of you. I will never pressure or guilt you into doing anything, and my only agenda is helping you to feel reassured, equipped, and empowered to care for your baby.

  • Relational

Feeding your baby is all about connection. Our lactation visits will focus on developing a warm, nurturing bond with your baby through positive feeding experiences. By beginning to notice your baby’s subtle cues and preferences, the newborn period can become more easeful.

  • Lactation Support Group

This monthly drop-in group is for families to support one another around the joys and challenges of breastfeeding. Whether you’re nursing your first child or your fifth, whether your child is two days old or two years old - you are welcome.

The group was created for nursing parents to connect with one another, but other supportive caregivers and siblings of all genders are welcome as well.

  • Disability Support Group

One of the most common struggles parents share with me is how lonely it can be to raise a child with a disability. This group was created to help grow a village of support. Whether your child’s disability is temporary or lifelong, you are welcome.

In this space, we view disability as a social construct rather than a ‘failure’ of the body or mind, and we use affirming language that uplifts disabled folks.

FAQs

  • I am a provider with The Lactation Network, which allows me to accept several insurance plans for lactation-related visits (such as feeding therapy that includes lactation support and prenatal lactation consults). If you have Anthem PPO, Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, VA OptumEast, Premera, Regence, UnitedHealthcare PPO and HMO, UMR, Oxford, Meritain Health, First Health, Aetna of Oregon, Federal Employee Health Benefit Programs (FEHB), and Oregon Office of Personnel Management Plans (OPM), or a plan that includes MultiPlan or the PNOA logo on your insurance card, please use this link to check for insurance coverage through The Lactation Network. Visits are covered in full, at no cost to you.

For all non-lactation services or if your plan is not listed above, I am an out-of-network provider. I am happy to provide a superbill following each visit for you to submit to your insurance to request reimbursement for out-of-network coverage. Call your insurance to determine your individual coverage and reimbursement procedures. I recommend asking:

    1. Does my plan reimburse for out-of-network habilitative services like speech-language pathology?

    2. What percent or dollar amount will I be reimbursed for each visit with my plan?

    3. What is the process to submit a request for reimbursement with my insurance company? (Usually there is a form to submit alongside the superbill.)

    4. Do I need pre-authorization for SLP services on my plan?

  • For those with insurance not accepted by The Lactation Network, my out-of-pocket fees are:

    • Your initial lactation evaluation, completed during a 90-minute home visit, is billed at $225.

    • After the initial evaluation, follow-up visits are billed at $175 for a 60-90 minute home visit.

    • Prenatal lactation consults are $150 for a 90-minute home visit.

As an out-of-network provider, I’m happy to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Please note than prenatal visits are not typically reimbursed.

  • Yes! Lactation counseling is for you if you need support with any part of lactation, including exclusive pumping for bottle feeding, combo feeding (feeding both formula and breast milk), or pumping for NG/G-tube feeding. I also support parents who are ready to wean or suppress lactation, including suppressing lactation after stillbirth and infant death.

Whatever your lactation goals are, I’m here to encourage, equip, and empower you!

  • Yes! The Portland/Vancouver area has a rich community of birthworkers and postpartum providers. I often refer families to specific providers for things like infant physical therapy, pregnancy massage, postpartum support groups, midwives and doulas, and providers who can address suspected tongue ties.

If you are a pregnancy, birth, or postpartum provider in the Portland/Vancouver area, I’d love to connect! Please feel free to reach out via my contact page.

  • Yes. I have experience with identifying suspected oral ties, as well as providing strategies to improve feeding skills regardless of whether your family pursues a surgical intervention (frenotomy).
